Medihoney™ Antibacterial Wound Gel is a preparation for topical application to chronic and acute wounds. As a result of a special formula 80% Medihoney™ Antibacterial Honey is combined with natural waxes and oils to achieve a gel with high viscosity for light application and good rinsing characteristics when changing the dressing.

MedihoneyTM Antibacterial Wound Gel is proven to have the following clinically effective properties:

  • Inhibits bacteria on the wound base
    (effective against more than 200 clinical isolates)
  • Quick and effective autolytic debridement of coated and necrotic wounds
  • Creates an antibacterial environment
  • Quick removal of odour on foul smelling wounds
  • Creates a moist wound environment which is important for healing and reduces pain when changing the dressing.

Excellent conditioning of the wound base:

Exudate formation is favoured as a result of the high osmotic potential of Medihoney™ Antibacterial Wound Gel. This washes bacteria, endotoxins and necrotic tissue from the wound into the wound cover allowing these to be removed when the dressing is changed, which also becomes easier as a result. In addition, an anti-bacterial environment is formed

 

Notes on application:

  • Apply Medihoney™ Barrier Cream to the edges of the wound.
  • Medihoney™ Antibacterial Wound Gel can be applied directly to the wound base.
  • Ensure that Medihoney™ Antibacterial Wound Gel is in full contact with the wound base (approx. 3mm thick layer).
  • A non-adhering dressing should be applied to cover the Medihoney™ Antibacterial Wound Gel.
  • A suitable dressing should also be used to manage exudates.
  • Medihoney™ Antibacterial Wound Gel can be left on the wound for up to 7 days irrespective of the wound secretion.


Clinical and in-vitro studies have shown that Medihoney™ Antibacterial Medical Honey is effective against a wide range of bacteria even in low concentrations.
